Several diagnostic choices are available to you to test those patients who have urethritis, cervicitis or are at risk for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Highly sensitive and specific DNA amplification technology has emerged as the new gold standard for diagnosing Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This is because these tests are more sensitive than direct probes, enzyme immunoassays (EIA) and culture.

The "Expanded
Gold Standard":

Defining True,
Patient Positive Results

Because DNA amplification technology has the potential for significantly greater sensitivity, the definition of a true positive result now shows us that the sensitivity of most tests is significantly lower than originally believed.13,18

The BD BeAware™ test was developed using BD's proprietary DNA amplification technology called Strand Displacement Amplification (SDA). The BD BeAware™ test is performed on the BD ProbeTec™ ET system.
