Franklin Lakes, NJ (November 05, 1996) -- The recipients of this year's Becton Dickinson Community Service Awards were announced on September 30th. The Community Service Awards recognize and honor the volunteer efforts of many Becton Dickinson employees and retirees. All financial awards go directly to the non-profit organizations for use in continuing their worthwhile community work. This year's applications, as in the past, were an accurate reflection of the global dedication Becton Dickinson has to fostering community relationships and supporting humanitarian efforts. The 1996 Community Service Award Winners are: Jeffrey Gora is winner of a $5,000 grant to Operation Smile, Inc. Operation Smile provides reconstructive facial surgery to children with congenital facial deformities around the world and in the United States. Jeffrey is an employee of BD Worldwide Injection Systems in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Arthur Kelley is winner of a $5,000 grant to the Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary in Sarasota, Florida. The Sanctuary is responsible for wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and environmental education. Arthur is a retiree of BD Consumer Products. Brant Bahnmuller is winner of a $2,000 grant to the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), Inc. in Sumter, South Carolina. Brant is an employee of BD VACUTAINER Systems in Sumter. Guendalina Benetti is winner of a $2,000 grant to the Cooperativa Sociale San Martino Progetto Autonomia, an organization dedicated to helping the mentally and physically handicapped learn to live an autonomous lifestyle. Guendalina is an employee of BD Italy, Customer Service. David Paul is winner of a $2,000 grant to the Junior Achievement of Northern New Jersey, Inc. Junior Achievement fosters positive attitudes towards school, contributions to society, work and business, in middle and high school students. David is an employee of BD Consumer Products in Franklin Lakes, NJ. Roberta Poklemba is winner of a $2,000 grant to the Deposit Volunteer Emergency Squad of Hancock, New York. Roberta has been with the Emergency Squad for more than 10 years. She is an employee of BD Worldwide Injection Systems in Hancock. Donald Walton is winner of a $2,000 grant to the San Diego Police Department- Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol Division (RSVP). The RSVP Division involves fully retired senior citizens, participating in non-confrontational patrol activities in San Diego. Don is a retiree of Becton Dickinson Advanced Diagnostics, which is now a part of BD Microbiology Systems. Applications are now available for the 1997 Community Service Awards.
