Franklin Lakes, NJ (September 28, 1999) -- BD has been selected by CIO magazine as a recipient of its annual CIO-100 award, which honors companies that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence. This year’s program focuses on survival and success in the new millennium. It recognizes the 100 firms most likely to prosper in the 21st century because of innovative practices that leverage people and technology. “The 1999 CIO-100 winners are companies that know their customers, leverage the Internet, invest in people, innovate like crazy and completely reinvent themselves if necessary,” said Abbie Lundberg, Editor- in Chief, CIO magazine.
“At BD, technology is a major component of business strategy,” said Arthur L. Levin, Vice President Information Technologies and Chief Information Officer. “Information technology (IT) is a cornerstone of our Genesis corporate transformation program and a key to our success as a global competitor.” Utilizing state-of-the-art SAP business software, the Genesis project is creating a one-company business platform for BD with common, interconnected processes and databases across all regions, business units and sites.
The award-winning BD web site (www.bd.com) provides top-flight online services to customers, distributors, vendors and health care providers. Information technology is also a major component of BD products and services, with an ever-expanding line of “smart” devices and diagnostics. And the Genesis project is swiftly transforming BD into a highly efficient and responsive organization.
BD recently named Jack Fuchs Vice-President of eBusiness, a newly created position that demonstrates the importance we have placed on this area of business. Jack will be dedicated to the speedy development and implementation of our eBusiness strategy. His global team will determine how the many aspects of information technology will be used to make BD products, processes and services more relevant to our customers.
“The CIO-100 award recognizes the promise of what we are doing to innovate and transform,” said Levin. “The BD of the future will be an e-commerce enabled business that applies IT to products, services and work processes to help us leap successfully into the 21st century.”
