BD Names Bridget Healy General Counsel

Contact: Camilla B. Jenkins BD (201) 847-5369 Franklin Lakes, NJ (June 05, 2000) -- BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX) today announced that Bridget M. Healy has been named Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, effective immediately. Healy replaces Robert M. Hallenbeck, who will join the life science research business of BD Biosciences, based in San Jose, California.

As a senior attorney and BD’s corporate secretary she has been a valued advisor in legal planning and corporate governance,” said Edward J. Healy, 45, joined BD in 1995 and was appointed Vice President and Secretary in 1997. Prior to joining the Company she had been a partner with the New York City law firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan and before that was an associate in New York and Paris, France with Davis, Polk and Wardwell. Her prior legal experience has included domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures representing corporations, financial advisors and major shareholder groups.
She graduated with honors from Brown University and magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center.

For the fiscal year ended September 30, 1999, BD reported total revenues of $3.4 billion and net income of $276 million.
