Continuing Expansion of Safety Product Line Franklin Lakes, NJ (May 30, 2002) -- BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company, NYSE: BDX) today announced the launch of the BD Integra™ Syringe with Retracting PrecisionGlide™ Needle, the latest innovation in spring-based retracting syringes. The BD Integra is the first and only retracting needle syringe that features an interchangeable needle, making it better suited to the clinical demands of the hospital environment. It also features BD needle technology, the sharpest available for enhanced patient comfort. Also unique is the ultra low medication "waste space" following injection, far lower than any other retracting needle syringe, allowing clinicians to choose activation of the needle retraction feature either before or after the needle is withdrawn from the patient without concerns.
"The new BD Integra™ Syringe represents a technology breakthrough in retracting needle syringe design," said Gary Cohen, president of BD Medical Systems. "Its unique design features, including needle interchangeability, activation inside or outside the patient and low medication waste space make it suitable for a broad range of injection applications. It is a result of years of technology development efforts, and incorporates BD's extensive know-how in designing and manufacturing high quality medical devices."
The BD Integra™ Syringe, now in commercial release and with a phased roll-out continuing throughout the summer, further extends BD's already broad array of safety-engineered products. BD's range of safety products includes over 200 catalog items across injection systems, infusion therapy, sample collection, surgery and sharps disposal. BD pioneered the development of safety-engineered medical devices and has been at the forefront of this field for well over a decade. The BD Integra™ Syringe is the company's newest safety-engineered injection device, joining the BD Eclipse™ Injection Needle, the BD SafetyGlide™ Syringes and Needles and BD Safety-Lok™ Syringes.
