(March 04, 2004) --
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE:BDX) is helping people with chronic hepatitis C manage their disease with ease and comfort through use of the BD™ Liquid Dry Injector Pen. Schering-Plough has announced that it is using this BD pen injector to deliver PEG-INTRON® (peginterferon alfa-2b) in its recently launched PEG-INTRON REDIPEN™ product. BD's product is the first and only pen delivery system approved for administering pegylated interferon therapy to people with chronic hepatitis C.
Ease of Use
Designed for patient self-injection, the BD Liquid Dry Injector Pen is a disposable, single-use system. It is easy to use, allowing patients to mix and inject drugs without vials and syringes. Patients reconstituteor mixthe drug by pressing down on the pen body to combine the compound, a lyophilized drug, and sterile water. The two components are stored in separate chambers of the pen body. A dial at the end of the pen allows for customized dosing, as patients simply turn a dial to adjust the dosage to their body weight.
Patient Comfort
The BD Liquid Dry Injector Pen is used with the 30G x 8mm BD pen needles. BD pen needles, which come in a variety of lengths and gauges to meet the varied needs of patients, are among the thinnest needles available on the market. Because of their small size and a special micro-bonded lubrication, BD pen needles make skin penetration more comfortable, nearly eliminating the pain associated with injection.
The Schering-Plough PEG-INTRON REDIPEN is just one illustration of how the BD Liquid Dry Injector Pen can make patient self-administration of injectable drugs safer and easier.
