It supports a full range of research applications in immunology, cell biology, and drug discovery.

"This novel system incorporates many technological advances first developed in the BD™ LSR II expandable cell analyzer and the BD FACSAria™ cell sorter. The BD FACSCanto™ flow cytometry system is yet another technological innovation from a world leader in cell sorting and analysis."
The system's design creates a flow cytometer with high-sensitivity optics, extremely low sample-to-sample carryover, and rapid processing rates of up to 10,000 events per second. The total benefit consists of high fluorescence sensitivity to resolve dim events, cleaner data due to minimal sample contamination, and high processing speed, preserving valuable time for science. The BD FACSCanto™ system overcomes obstacles known in rare event analysis and in functional studies for low detection ranges.
Ease of use was also a priority in the design of this system. Fixed optical alignment means users do not have to manually align lasers. In addition, fluorochromes have already been validated by BD Biosciences for users, and the fluidics cart holds all fluids necessary to operate and maintain the BD FACSCanto™ system. It facilitates automated cleaning, startup, and shutdown routines. The system also provides automated sample loading with the BD FACS™ loader option, enabling walkaway sample acquisition. All of this allows users to concentrate on what's important—the science—rather than instrument operation and maintenance.
