BD Supplements Hurricane Katrina Relief Contribution with Medical Product Donations

Spinella Investor Relations (201) 847-5453 Email: patricia_spinella@bd.com Franklin Lakes, NJ (September 14, 2005) -- BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has authorized product donations of up to $1 million worth of medical equipment to address the urgent medical needs in the Gulf Coast region of the United States in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. To date, blood glucose monitor kits, lancets, test strips, insulin syringes, needles and alcohol swabs have been sent to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Direct Relief International and Heart to Heart International to meet the immediate needs of diabetes patients in the area. Additionally, BD is working with Eli Lilly and Company to coordinate the shipments of diabetes supplies to ensure that all people with diabetes who have been impacted by the disaster will have a BD insulin syringe when they receive their vial of Lilly insulin. BD’s product donations supplement its initial $500,000 financial donation (announced on September 1, 2005), which was split equally between the American Red Cross and the United Way Hurricane Relief Fund.
