To date, blood glucose monitor kits, lancets, test strips, insulin syringes, needles and alcohol swabs have been sent to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Direct Relief International and Heart to Heart International to meet the immediate needs of diabetes patients in the area. Additionally, BD is working with Eli Lilly and Company to coordinate the shipments of diabetes supplies to ensure that all people with diabetes who have been impacted by the disaster will have a BD insulin syringe when they receive their vial of Lilly insulin. BD’s product donations supplement its initial $500,000 financial donation (announced on September 1, 2005), which was split equally between the American Red Cross and the United Way Hurricane Relief Fund.
