Franklin Lakes, NJ (October 28, 2005) – BD Medical - Diabetes Care a unit of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) announced today that its successful BD Diabetes Makeover Program will team with dLife. The dLifeTV program airs nationally on CNBC and will follow a BD Diabetes Makeover Participant through their makeover process. “We are very pleased with the initial success of the BD Diabetes Makeover Program and are excited about bringing this initiative to a nationwide television audience,” said Bill Marshall, President, BD Medical-Diabetes Care. “To date, the feedback from the diabetes community, as well as policy makers in Washington, on our makeover initiative has been very positive. We hope that by gaining exposure for this program on dLife, we can inspire more people to improve the way they are managing their diabetes care.” BD recently launched its third BD Diabetes Makeover Program, which will be featured in several upcoming episodes of this year’s dLife season. “We believe the BD Diabetes Makeover is an inspiration for the entire diabetes community. It was a natural for BD and dLife to partner in bringing this incredible program to the national consciousness. dLife is here to inspire and the BD Makeover will motivate even more to improve their diabetes management,” said Howard Steinberg, CEO and Creator of dLife and a person who has lived with diabetes for 37 years. The BD Diabetes Makeover Program provides the right resources, tools, support and products to help people with diabetes learn how to self-manage their disease. Over an 11-week period, five participants from across the country are having their diabetes care regimen “made over” by the BD Diabetes Dream Team, a team of leading clinical, diabetes education, nutrition, fitness and lifestyle organization experts. Each participant is evaluated by the Dream Team and provided a personalized diabetes regimen including:
There is also the involvement of a case manager for the participants to help them navigate through the daily changes to their regimens and who serves as a liaison between the Dream Team and each participant. The results of the current BD Diabetes Makeover Program will be revealed at the ADA NYC Diabetes Expo on December 3rd, 2005 at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City. During BD’s first national makeover initiative in 2004 each participant lowered his or her blood glucose levels into target range. One participant lowered her daily blood glucose from an average range of 160mg/dl to 120 mg/dl. Another participant lowered his A1C (average blood glucose) by 27 percent. BD is currently also conducting a mini-makeover in Washington, DC where three participants from the DC-metro area are undergoing the same program. dLife represents the first integrated media network for the 18.2 million people living with diabetes, plus their families and those at risk of developing the disease – some 70 million in all. dLife provides knowledge, insight, advice and inspiration to this group through dLifeTV, www.dlife.com, dLifeRadio and dLifeConnect. dLifeTV airs on CNBC every Sunday night at 7:00 PM EST.
