The company has committed 10 million euros to the construction of this new warehouse, Spain’s largest warehouse dedicated to medical technology. The new warehouse expands storage capacity by 20% over existing capacity to 60,600 cubic meters, which will host 28,000 pallets. It includes a state-of-the art logistics system which controls six transporters that move swiftly through storage corridors. This new fully automated system can move 132 pallets an hour, allowing the warehouse to be emptied and completely refilled in 182 hours. “The process is now automated and centralized in one warehouse, instead of moving product among five warehouses,” stated Marcos Calucho, Plant Manager. “The new warehouse will reduce traffic and be more environmentally sustainable”. Jose Luis Gómez, General Manager of BD in Spain, said, “This new facility will enable us to reduce cycle times and consolidate shipments, enhancing the operational effectiveness of the supply chain, from distribution partners to our customers.” In 1986, BD purchased the plant that had belonged to Fabersanitas, which covered 9,000 square meters and employed 180 people. Today, BD’s 65,000 square meter Fraga facility employs 520 associates and is the largest factory in the province of Huesca and one of the largest medical technology manufacturing facilities in the world.
