BD Medical – Diabetes Care, a unit of BD, announces the launch of the 8mm BD AutoShield™ Pen Needle in the United States, expanding its existing safety pen needle line. The new needle size responds to growing demand from healthcare workers for a greater choice of pen needles in the hospital setting.

According to a recent survey, switching from insulin vials to pens is gaining popularity in healthcare facilities. Insulin pens offer several advantages over vials, which include decreasing the time required to prepare and administer insulin as well as reducing medication waste compared with dispensing full insulin vials for each patient.*

BD AutoShield™ Pen Needles offer the following benefits:

• Healthcare worker:  Help to reduce needlestick injuries and ensure compliance without compromising injection technique.
• Facility:  Fit all insulin pens and dosers available in U.S. hospitals and can be used for subcutaneous injections of other drugs delivered in pens.
