BD in India Named Among Top 25 Best Employers in Asia

(May 14, 2009) --

BD in India has been featured as one of the top 25 best employers in Asia and has also achieved a number12 rank in India as by the Hewitt Associates’ Best Employers 2009 Survey. BD in India is the only business in the healthcare segment to have been featured in this prestigious listing for India.

“BD understands the importance of employee engagement and its impact on morale and performance across the organization,” said Ram Sharma, Managing Director, BD in India.  “To be featured as one of the top 25 best employers in Asia and ranked twelfth among the Best Employers in India through this survey reflects the dedication of BD associates to our Company’s values, and of our management to ensuring that BD is a great place to work.”

Hewitt Associates, a global human resource consulting and outsourcing firm, determines these annual lists after extensive studies of management practices in leading organizations in India and Asia. BD - India first participated in the Hewitt Best Employers Survey in 2007, when it ranked in the top 20 list of Best Employers in India at number 18.

The 2009 Best Employers study is Hewitt’s sixth annual employee engagement review and assesses a company’s ability to deliver against its commitment to being a best employer as well as the influence of those efforts on business results. Key criteria for selection included: leadership, diversity, learning and development, and ethics and integrity.  A total of 230 organizations and 46,000 employees in India participated in this study, while more than 900 companies and 180,000 employees participated in the broader Asia study.

BD in India has built and nurtured a values-driven organization with a culture of pride in the Company’s values and purpose, openness and transparency, as well as freedom to express views and stretch beyond boundaries. This has been achieved through practices that include:

  • High-touch and frequent employee-engagement programs
  • Rich bouquet of reward and recognition programs
  • Progressive, diversity-friendly employee policies
  • Structured and rigorous talent management processes
  • A culture of learning and teaching

This has resulted in BD in India having a high degree of employee engagement, lower than industry employee attrition rates (and zero attrition at the leadership level) and internal grooming of talent for leadership positions.

BD began operations in India in 1996 at its Bawal, Haryana facility, which is now one of the largest syringe and medical device manufacturing facilities in Asia.  It employs 385 associates at five facilities in India -- a corporate office, manufacturing site and three regional sales offices.
