Cervical cancer is highly preventable in Western European countries because both screening tests and a vaccine to prevent HPV infections are widely available.
Cervical screening* is a method of preventing cancer by detecting and treating early abnormalities in a woman’s cervix (part of the womb) which if left untreated could lead to cancer. Vaccination of young women* prevents several, though not all, types of cervical cancer.
