Johnny Lundgren of BD joins the ABHI Board of Directors Oxford, UK – 9 March 2011-- Global medical technology company BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) announced today that Johnny Lundgren, Vice President / General Manager, North West Europe, has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors at the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI). In his role, Johnny will assist the ABHI in its mission to promote the rapid adoption of innovative medical technologies to ensure optimum patient outcomes throughout the UK and in key global markets. Johnny will also support the new ABHI’s Chairman, Gary Stapleton, in ensuring that the ABHI continues to provide a strong and unified voice on key issues, forging strong links with key stakeholders. Johnny joined BD more than ten years ago and has held senior management positions in the Nordic region, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, the UK and Ireland, and most recently in China. His recent appointment as VP / GM North West Europe sees his responsibility expanding to include the Nordic countries, the UK and Ireland, and Benelux. In this key position, Johnny will be instrumental in BD’s efforts to increase awareness of the importance of healthcare worker safety and the new EU Directive on the prevention of sharps injuries. Johnny Lundgren says: “Sharps injuries can result in the transmission of more than 20 life-threatening viruses, including Hepatitis B and C, and HIV[1]. However, independent studies have shown that training, safer working practice, and the use of safety-engineered medical devices can prevent more than 80% of sharps injuries[2].
