BD plans to invest $48 million in the 47,000-square-foot addition to add manufacturing capacity for BD’s Medical Surgical Systems business unit. “When BD began operations in Columbus in 1949, this was the first BD manufacturing site outside of New Jersey, where the Company has its headquarters,” said Todd Zeller, Plant Manager, BD Medical - Medical Surgical Systems in Columbus West. “This new expansion is the result of our positive experience with the skilled workforce in Columbus. BD is pleased to be growing in Nebraska, and we appreciate the support we have received from the local community for this investment.” BD currently employs more than 1,500 associates in Columbus, and the new expansion is expected to provide 40 new jobs for the area. In total, BD has more than 2,500 employees in Nebraska at four locations: Broken Bow, Holdrege and two facilities in Columbus.
