David Facey & his family help rebuild SERTULAN:
East Timor (or Timor Lesté, as it is officially known) is an island neighbour of Australia. Its history is steeped in foreign occupation and conflict and the majority of the people are starving, lack access to any sort of medical care and consequently East Timor has the highest rate of infant mortality in the world.
For the past 3 years David and his children have helped to rebuild 37 homes, installed sanitation systems and has also provided basic medical treatments
… I have travelled to Sertulan with my son, daughter and father on various trips, and this has given my kids a tremendous perspective on how lucky we are in Australia. To spend a few weeks with no electricity, phone, very little food, sleeping with the rats and snakes is quite sobering.
There is still lots of work to be done in East Timor. I look forward to going again, to work on our next project in Hera in 2013…
