BD Phoenix™ Automated Microbiology System Receives FDA Clearance

BD Diagnostic Systems, Sparks, MD, announces that the BD Phoenix™ Automated Microbiology System has received FDA 510(k) clearance for sale in the U.S.A. BD Phoenix is a fully automated rapid system for the identification and susceptibility testing of clinically relevant bacteria. Designed for both small volume and large volume laboratories, the Phoenix System incorporates an easy-to-use workflow, sophisticated instrumentation and advanced software to provide rapid and reliable results. The Phoenix System's panels are intended for identification only, susceptibility only or in combination. Susceptibility testing utilizes doubling concentrations to determine classic MIC results. Identification testing incorporates forty-five self-indicating fluorogenic and chromogenic substrates for reagent-free reactions. The FDA clearance includes the Phoenix instrument, software and a limited menu of antimicrobial agents for in vitro testing.
