Revision: 02     Revision Date: 01/01/2013

Intended Use:

BBL™ Port-A-Cul™ tubes, jars and vials contain a reduced transport medium and are intended to maintain the viability of anaerobic, facultative and aerobic microorganisms during transport from the patient to the laboratory. Sterile packages are for collection of specimens in clean areas; e.g., surgical suites.

Product Summary:

Anaerobic microorganisms require special transport methods to prevent even brief exposure to oxygen.1,2 Maintaining aerobic, anaerobic and facultative organisms in an anaerobic environment provides an ideal method of transport.3-6

BBL Port-A-Cul Tubes are for swab specimens. Swab specimens are inserted into a reduced solidified holding medium, in contrast to other methods in which swabs are placed into fluid media where organisms may be diluted or into an empty tube where organisms may dry out. Port-A-Cul Transport Jars are for tissue and biopsy specimens. The wide-mouth jar allows for easier insertion of the specimen into the reduced solidified holding medium. Port-A-Cul Vials are for fluid specimens. Fluid specimens are injected directly onto the solid agar surface.
