Intended Use:

Intended Use:

BBL™ Indole Reagent Droppers (modified Kovacs' reagent) are used in determining the ability of bacteria to produce indole by the deamination of tryptophan.



Product Summary:

The production of indole has been widely used as an aid in differentiating certain genera and species within the same genus.

Indole Reagent may be used for tube or extraction procedures or with a variety of biochemical kits requiring Kovacs' or Ehrlich's reagents.1,2

Each dropper is good for one day's use after the ampule has been broken.



User Quality Control:

1. Examine the reagent for signs of deterioration (See "Product Deterioration").

2. Positive (Escherichia coli ATCC™ 25922) and negative (Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 33495) controls should be run simultaneously with the organism to be tested.

Quality control requirements must be performed in accordance with applicable local, state and/or federal regulations or accreditation requirements and your laboratory's standard Quality Control procedures. It is recommended that the user refer to pertinent NCCLS guidance and CLIA regulations for appropriate Quality Control practices.



Reagents:

Indole Reagent Droppers contain 0.5 mL of 5% p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde dissolved in a solution of 25% hydrochloric acid and 75% isobutyl alcohol.



Warnings and Precautions:

For in vitro Diagnostic Use.

Follow proper laboratory procedures in handling and disposing of infectious materials. Indole reagent is very acidic. Avoid contact with the skin. Rinse thoroughly with water if spilled.

Causes burns. Irritating to respiratory system. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label where possible).
