BBL™ 10% Potassium Hydroxide Reagent Droppers are intended for use in the examination of direct smears for fungal elements. 10% potassium hydroxide (KOH) facilitates the clearing of specimens for enhanced microscopic observation of fungi without altering the fungal elements present. Examine the reagent for signs of deterioration (see “Product Deterioration”). 2. Smears of hair, skin or nails treated with 10% KOH should reveal partial cell disintegration. Water-treated smears will be unchanged. Quality control requirements must be performed in accordance with applicable local, state and/or federal regulations or accreditation requirements and your laboratory's standard Quality Control procedures. It is recommended that the user refer to pertinent NCCLS guidance and CLIA regulations for appropriate Quality Control practices. 10% Potassium Hydroxide Reagent Droppers contain 0.5 mL of 10% KOH with 1% dimethyl sulfoxide. For in vitro Diagnostic Use. Follow proper laboratory procedures in handling and disposing of infectious materials. Avoid contact with the skin. Rinse thoroughly with water if spilled. | |||||||||||
