Bio-Bag™ Type C is a disposable environmental system designed to rapidly generate and maintain a carbon dioxide environment for 48 h. Each system contains a sealable translucent Bio-Bag and a CO2 Gas Generator.
A CO2-enriched atmosphere is conducive to improved recovery of certain microorganisms; i.e., Neisseria gonorrhoeae,1,2 Neisseria meningitidis,2,3 and Haemophilus species.3,4 Growth and hemolysis on blood agar of some strains of streptococci are enhanced by 5 to 10% CO2.4
Bio-Bag Type C is designed to generate and maintain a CO2-fortified atmosphere for at least 48 h. This disposable system is intended to be used with appropriate media provided by the user. After incubation, bacterial growth may be macroscopically observed through the Bio-Bag at any interval without disrupting the CO2-enriched atmosphere.
A stock strain of Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Haemophilus influenzae should be tested on a suitable medium in Bio-Bag Type C periodically to assure adequate conditions for recovery and characteristic growth.
Quality control requirements must be performed in accordance with applicable local, state and/or federal regulations or accreditation requirements and your laboratory's standard Quality Control procedures. It is recommended that the user refer to pertinent NCCLS guidance and CLIA regulations for appropriate Quality Control practices.
Each Bio-Bag Type C system consists of:
| 1 | Gas Impermeable Environmental Chamber with a zipper closure. | |
| 1 | Gas Generator consisting of one tablet of 130 mg sodium bicarbonate and one ampule of 0.5 mL of 1.56 N hydrochloric acid. |
For in vitro Diagnostic Use.
Do not use if Bio-Bag appears damaged.
Bio-Bag must be tightly sealed to maintain proper gaseous environment.
Avoid skin contact with liquid contents of generator ampule.
Do not use generator if package has been previously opened or if generator appears to have been previously activated.
Do not allow generator to come in contact with water prior to use.
Warning: Pathogenic microorganisms, including hepatitis viruses and Human Immunodeficiency Virus, may be present in clinical specimens. "Standard Precautions"6-9 and institutional guidelines should be followed in handling all items contaminated with blood and other body fluids.
