BD ProbeTec™ ET System
Available since 1999, the BD ProbeTec™ ET System is the first real-time DNA amplification assay for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC). Based on proprietary BD technology, Strand Displacement Amplification (SDA) and real-time homogeneous detection, the system design combines short time-to-results, minimal labor, high throughput and ease-of-use to make the BD ProbeTec ET System the choice for laboratories throughout the world.

The BD ProbeTec instrument performs simultaneous amplification and detection in a real time, one-hour format enhancing efficiency by enabling multiple instrument runs per shift. Up to 276 CT/GC or 564 CT specimens can be run in a single eight-hour shift with one instrument. The multi-channel, programmable pipettor minimizes labor requirements for fluid transfer steps. Daily maintenance is less than five minutes for the complete system. LIS connectivity and barcode accession support reduce hands on time and possible errors.

Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA Amplified Assays
The BD ProbeTec ET Assays for Chlamydia trach-o-matis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) can be performed on asymptomatic or symptomatic male and female patients using a simple urine specimen or from endocervical swabs and male urethral swabs. The isothermal SDA technology is utilized to generate billions of copies of target molecules from a single DNA or RNA template in the one-hour assay time.

The CT/GC assay reagents, which can be stored at room temperature, are provided in a dried-down format to save time and labor. For convenience CT may be tested alone or in combination with GC. Priming and amplification wells are color-coded maximizing the ease of use. An optional amplification control is available to monitor each specimen for the presence of inhibitors increasing testing flexibility. The closed reagent system reduces the risk of amplicon contamination and eliminates the need to carry out the procedure in multiple rooms.

Specimen Transport Systems for the BD ProbeTec™ ET CT/GC Assays
Urethral and endocervical swab transport systems for CT/GC are color coded for easy identification and reduction in errors. Testing flexibility is increased with six-day sample transport capability (2-27C). The large cleaning swab included with endocervical collection kits is easily differentiated from the sample collection swab reducing specimen rejections. Collection flexibility is increased with dry and wet transport kit availability. The collection swab and transport tube are provided in simple-to-use packaging for the clinician. User safety is enhanced with a security friction cap preventing sample splashes. These fluid free transports eliminate the possibility of specimen rejections due to leakage in transport.

The pre-scored swab, pre-filled diluent tube and the specially designed cap that captures the swab provide a leak proof seal that reduces the number of capping/uncapping steps in the laboratory. The specimen extraction is performed in the transport tube eliminating additional steps for the technologist.

Use of the Urine Preservative Pouch (UPP) increases specimen stability, removes inhibitors, and permits room temperature transport of urine specimens. Refrigeration of urine in transport is another convenient choice for urine specimen transport.
