It offers greater capacity, safe operation, fast results and highest throughput of any automated system - the first fully automated system for high-volume mycobacteria growth, detection and susceptibility testing.
A New Level of Productivity
The BACTEC MGIT 960 System is designed to meet the needs of medium and high volume laboratories. The BACTEC MGIT 960 system has a space-saving capacity of 960 tubes which lets you process up to 8,000 specimens per year. Continuous monitoring identifies positives as they occur. Faster results can improve patient care and lower healthcare costs by reducing hospital stays and optimizing equipment and staff utilization.
EpiCenter™ Data Management System (an optional component) performs statistical analyses and accommodates different customer preferences. It also provides simple specimen tracking along with a flexible and dynamic reporting system for more in-depth data management needs.
The BACTEC MGIT 960 System utilizes plastic tubes and has eliminated the use of sharps. Safe, efficient, on-board incubation means no need to handle or transfer tubes once the system is loaded - thus reducing labor requirements and adding on an extra layer of operator safety. Simply scan and load the plastic sample tubes into the instrument, and walk away.
A Commitment to Simplicity and Performance
The BACTEC MGIT 960 System uses MGIT media and patented sensors, making efficient use of advanced fluorometric technology and permitting highly accurate detection of oxygen consumption. BBL™ MGIT™ 7 mL tube is supplemented with BBL™ PANTA™ and BACTEC MGIT 960 Growth Supplement prior to inoculation with 0.5 mL of processed specimen. The inoculated tube is then entered into the instrument via bar code scanning that guides the simple 4-step workflow. The BACTEC MGIT 960 instrument automatically directs the placement of each tube within the instrument where continuous incubation and monitoring occurs until the system indicates either a positive or a completed negative specimen.
The BACTEC MGIT 960 SIRE (streptomycin, isoniazid, rifampin and ethambutol) and PZA (pyrazinamide) Susceptibility Test for Mycobacterium tuberculosis features automatic susceptible or resistant interpretation to eliminate subjectivity. The BACTEC MGIT 960 instrument automatically directs the placement of AST Set within the instrument where AST results are available, on average, in 7-8 days, which is comparable to the BACTEC 460TB System. Tubes incubate and are read without the need of any further action by the technologist.
Susceptible or resistant results are produced when the instrument compares the drug-containing tube to the Growth Control tube.
The BACTEC MGIT 960 System is noteworthy in its capacity and flexibility in combining Growth and Detection and AST testing into a single high performance system.
BD BACTEC™ 9000MB Mycobacterial Detection System
The BACTEC™ 9000MB System offers medium volume laboratories the advantages of non-invasive fluorescent testing technology that detects the growth of mycobacteria in clinical specimens.
The BACTEC 9000MB System continuously monitors samples around the clock to detect positives as they occur. This translates into better staff and equipment utilization and fast results for improved patient care. The BACTEC 9000MB System also performs its own continuous quality checks.
The BACTEC 9000MB System is fully automated, making it easy for anyone to operate. Barcode scanning and a bidirectional interface make it easy to enter into the system. Data management provides patient and specimen tracking capabilities and statistical reports.
Laboratory workflow with the system can be made easier by interfacing the BACTEC 9000MB System to a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and using that system’s patient/specimen barcodes.
Myco/F Medium is supplemented with BACTEC™ PANTA™/F Antibiotic Supplement and BACTEC Supplement/F Media Supplement prior to inoculation with the processed specimen. The inoculated vial is then entered into the instrument where continuous incubation and monitoring occurs until the system indicates either a positive or a completed negative specimen.
The BACTEC 9000MB System is equivalent in time-to-detection and recovery to the industry standard of reference: the BACTEC 460TB System. In addition, the PANTA/F Antibiotic Supplement helps to reduce breakthrough contamination for more reliable results.
BACTEC™ 460TB Mycobacterial Detection and Susceptibility Testing System
The BACTEC 460TB System was the first automated system for mycobacteria testing. Today, the BACTEC 460TB System still serves as the benchmark for quality, reliability and performance.
The BACTEC 460TB System provides early detection of growth of mycobacteria from clinical specimens, and a standardized procedure for detection, differentiation and susceptibility.
The BACTEC 460TB System radiometric technology provides rapid and accurate testing of mycobacteria to obtain the results you need to know:
- Detection – in as little as 4-8 days.
- Differentiation – in as little as 3-6 days.
- Susceptibility – in as little as 4-12 days.
The BACTEC 460TB provides your laboratory with detection, differentiation and susceptibility testing to the five primary drugs used to treat tuberculosis: isoniazid, rifampin, streptomycin, ethambutol and PZA. The system can be used with either 12B medium supplemented with PANTA or 13A medium for whole blood. The medium is incubated off-line at 37°C and is tested on the instrument periodically during the 6-week incubation period.
