Advanced Fluorometric Manual Mycobacteria Detection
The BBL™ MGIT™ Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube is “a rapid, easy-to-use system with high accuracy for the detection of mycobacteria from clinical specimens." The BBL MGIT System creates an environment suitable for rapid mycobacterial growth. Mycobacteria can then be easily removed from the plastic tube for further testing. Unmistakable Results BBL MGIT tubes use fluorometric technology to increase the ease and speed of reading results. Using a Wood’s lamp or other long-wave UV light source, tubes are read daily. Positive tests emit a vivid orange fluorescent glow at the tube base and at the meniscus; negative tests show negligible or no glow. Outstanding Performance The BBL MGIT system has been found equivalent in performance to the BACTEC 460TB System. In an independent test of 500 clinical samples, 21% of isolates were recovered by only the BBL MGIT System, 16% by only the BACTEC 460TB System, and 63% by both systems. The median time to detection was 13 days for BBL MGIT compared to 12 days for the BACTEC 460TB System. Easy-to-Use Simply supplement the BBL MGIT tube with MGIT OADC Enrichment and MGIT PANTA Antibiotic Mixture, inoculate with the prepared specimen and incubate.
