The BBL MGIT System creates and environment suitable for rapid mycobacterial growth. Mycobacteria can then be easily removed from the tube for further testing.
Unmistakable Results
The BBL MGIT tubes use fluorometric technology to increase the ease and speed of reading results. Using a Wood's lamp or other long-wave UV light source, tubes are read daily. Positive tests emit a vivid orange fluorescent glow at the tube base and at the meniscus; negative tests show negligible or no glow.
Outstanding Performance
The BBL MGIT System is equivalent in performance to the BACTEC 460TB System. In an independent test of 500 clinical samples, 21% of isolates were recovered by only the BBL MGIT System, 16% by only the BACTEC 460TB System, and 63% by both systems. The median time to detection was 13 days for The BBL MGIT compared to 12 days for BACTEC 460TB System.2
