1. What specimens are acceptable for this test?
Nasopharyngeal (NP) washes, NP aspirates, and NP swabs.
2. Can a frozen sample be run on this test?
Acceptable specimens may be fresh, refrigerated (2-8ºC for 72 hours) or frozen (at -20ºC) for up to 7 days.
3. Can I use centrifuged samples for the test?
This is not recommended. It may adversely affect the sensitivity of the test.
4. Will a mucoid sample affect my test results?
The unique design of the EZ RSV product allows for the use of mucoid samples.
5. At what temperature should the kit be stored?
The kit should be stored at between 2- 30ºC.
6. Can transport media other than what is stated in the package insert be used?
Yes, but any alternate transport medium must be validated by the user.
7. Does a bloody sample cause interference with this test?
No interference was noted for samples containing blood up to 2% of the total sample volume. Check package insert for other potential interfering substances evaluated with the Directigen EZ RSV product.
8. Does the device need to be read at exactly 15 minutes?
The test may be read up to 60 minutes after adding the extracted sample to the test device. Negative results should be read no sooner than 15 minutes
