Cardiac arrest

Cardiac arrest occurs when a person's heart abruptly stops working properly, resulting in death. It may be caused by abnormal or irregular heart rhythms, called arrhythmias. However, cardiac arrest may be reversed with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and a defibrillator, which shocks the heart to restore a normal heart rhythm.
