The Next Generation Molecular Platform
BD MAX™ System* Technology
The BD MAX System is designed to reduce the time, complexity and overall cost of molecular testing.
Lysis and Nucleic Acid Extraction
Fully automated sample processing uses a combination of lytic enzymes and extraction reagents to perform cell lysis, and nucleic acid extraction.
Following cell lysis with the BD MAX System, released nucleic acids are captured by high-affinity magnetic beads. The beads with the bound nucleic acids are washed, the nucleic acids are eluted and prepared for PCR by adding neutralization reagent. This reduced final elution volume is designed to offer a higher concentration of target material than other capture methods.
Ease of Use
All reagents and consumables required for lysis, nucleic acid extraction and PCR (optional) are loaded into a Unitized Reagent Strip (URS), simplifying instrument set-up.

Microfluidic Real-Time PCR
The BD MAX System incorporates efficient microfluidic-based real-time PCR. PCR reactions are performed individually in disposable microfluidic cartridges (see picture below). Small reaction volumes combined with microthermal circuits allow for short thermocycling times. Detection is based on multi-wavelength fluorescence-detection. Micro-valves seal off each chamber prior to initiation of PCR preventing evaporation and the risk of contamination.
