Telescoping Needle Shield
The patented shielding design incorporates a telescoping needle shield that passively covers the needle as it is withdrawn from the catheter. At the distal end of the shield activator, there are several 'bumps' which provide a firm gripping surface and indicate which end to grasp during needle removal.
- Provides safety from needlestick injuries and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Telescoping needle shield completely encapsulates needle after insertion and withdrawal of shield activator.
Extension Set
Features:
The pre-attached extension tubing offers a closed catheter system, ensuring a virtually bloodless insertion and greater safety for you. The removable PRN adapter allows the use of any needleless IV access device and the optional 'Y' adapter allows for prepriming and flushing during venipuncture.
Benefits:
- The clear tubing allows for flashback visualization.
- Flashback is contained in the tubing, minimizing the clinician's exposure to blood during venipuncture.
- Tubing and PRN adapter changes are performed distal to the venipuncture site reducing touch contamination and mechanical manipulation.
- PRN adapter and 'Y' adapter are latex free.
Shorter Length Catheter
Features:
The BD Saf-T-Intima catheters are available in two catheter lengths: 1" length in 18 and 20 gauge catheters and 3/4" length in 22 and 24 gauge catheters.
Benefits:
- Gives the clinician the choice of the best vein for the patient and therapy rather than the best vein for the catheter.
- Shorter catheters better accommodate fragile vessels with compromised vein segments.
Wings
Features:
Flexible wings provide better insertion control as they allow the fingers to be closer to the venipuncture site. 'Pebbles' are located on the underside of the wings.
Benefits:
- Combines the benefits of a catheter and a 'butterfly'.
- Large surface area and low profile of wings provide a platform to tapedown on the patient.
- 'Pebbles' offer a non-slip surface during insertion.
- 'Pebbles' allows skin underneath to breathe so moisture can escape during catheter indwelling time.
