The BD Phoenix™ automated microbiology system offers rapid, accurate and reliable identification and susceptibility results. These capabilities are due to the incorporation of an oxidation-reduction indicator with turbidity measurement for growth detection, as well as full on-panel antimicrobial concentrations and the BD Xpert system for data analysis. These results are further enhanced by specific delayed resistance features, which provide additional assurance that the BD Phoenix system results are not only rapid but also accurate.
Resistance marker detection is included on every panel of the appropriate type, eliminating the need for additional tests or added incubation. This feature speeds reporting and reduces additional or repeat testing.
With the BD Phoenix AP instrument, the BD Phoenix system incorporates state-of-the art technology to offer laboratory workflow efficiency and standardized isolate inoculum. The BD Phoenix AP instrument is the first in the industry to offer automated nephelometry in ID/AST testing. This step has traditionally been the most time-consuming, manual step associated with isolate preparation.
In addition to accurately confirming known resistance, the BD Phoenix system is an industry leader in rapidly detecting resistance in organisms that have historically been susceptible.
Identification results from the BD Bruker MALDI biotyper are seamlessly integrated with the MIC result generated from the BD Phoenix instrument via the BD EpiCenter™ data management system to create the susceptibility profile. Additionally, the BD EpiCenter data management system offers an intuitive and time-saving plate mapping feature to guide the BD Bruker MALDI plate spotting process and to reduce the risk of transcription errors.
