LASIK Flap Spatula/Irrigator Hersh
Catalog# 585252

BD Visitec View the LASIK Flap Spatula/Irrigator Hersh demonstration by Dr. Peter S. Hersh.

Real Video 28.8K   56K   T1
  • Allows 3-in-1 lifting, aligning and irrigating
  • Used to lift, reposition and irrigate the corneal flap, and to smooth out the interface between flap and stromal bed.
  • The blunt tip of the LASIK Flap Spatula/Irrigator allows a traumatic entering into the interface while simultaneously floating the flap up.

    1. Curvature from bend to tip conforms to the corneal curvature for ease of flap manipulation
    2. New 9 mm tip-to-bend size accommodates larger flaps for hyperopia correction
    3. Flattened bend-to-tip allows more surface area contact between the cannula and flap for better interface.
"The LASIK Flap Spatula/Irrigator is easily placed beneath the flap since its polished edges and flattened, wing-like (or feathered) silhouette avoid damage to flap edges." Peter S. Hersh, MD, FACS

According to Dr. Hersh, "It is better than current instruments since it is one instrument good for:

  • Flap repositioning
  • Irrigating under flap
  • Since the curvature conforms to the cornea; it allows "massaging" of the flap into position to avoid striae.
It can be used as a LASIK spatula as well as an irrigator. It is easily placed beneath the flap since its polished edges and flattened wing-like (or feathered) silhouette avoid damage to flap edges. The architecture allows easy placement under the flap without damage to the flap edges or stromal bed."

Feature/Function Advantage Benefit
Angled 45 degree, 9mm from spatulated tip
Curvature form bend to tip conforms to the corneal curvature

Exposes more surface area between cannula and corneal flap
Allows surgeon to avoid speculum and orbit May be used as a spatula combined with an irrigator
Blunt Tip Facilities placement under flap for lifting

Permits atraumatic lifting of flap (back onto sponge or lay on drape)
Minimizes risk of damage to flap edges

Ease of use
Flattened from bend to tip Allows more surface area contact between cannula and corneal flap to act as a spatula May be used as a spatula to smooth flap and remove striae
Three-in-One Allows simultaneous flap lifting, aligning, and irrigation Convenience

Floats flap up to break adhesion, remove debris, and facilitate natural adhesion
