BD's Diabetes Collaborations and Partnerships

  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

BD has a long corporate relationship which includes multi-year grants to support research to find a cure. BD is also a committed partner for other fund raising initiatives on a national and regional basis. BD’s financial contributions and participation in the JDRF Walk have helped advance the JDRF’s mission of finding a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

JDRF Canada was founded in 1974 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes. As a result, JDRF volunteers have a personal connection to type 1 diabetes, which translates into an unrelenting commitment to finding a cure. These volunteers are the driving force behind more than 100 locations worldwide that raise money and advocate for government spending for type 1 diabetes research.*

As a result of BD's commitment to the JDRF, a research project at the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute in Toronto was named in honor of BD.

  • Diabetes Camp Program in Canada

BD in Canada supports more than 2,000 children who attend diabetes camps across Canada each summer with much-needed injection and testing supplies. In 2007, BD in Canada also gave all campers a Jot Your Thoughts journal so that they could record their camp experiences.

BD Supports World Diabetes Day in Canada
  • On November 14, 2007, a "healthy lunch" event at the BD office in Oakville, Ontario, promoted World Diabetes Day by raising awareness of the importance of combating the diabetes epidemic on a global level.

  • Associates in blue shirts took a 246-step walk, each step representing one of the 246 million people with diabetes worldwide.  Associates then formed a blue circle, the global symbol for diabetes.
