- Second highest prevalence of diabetes globally.
- Diabetes incidence is increasing due to the greater prevalence of obesity and physical inactivity. An increase in obesity among preschool-aged children raises the risk that this young population will develop diabetes later in life.
BD Supports World Diabetes Day in China
- BD supports 500 low-income families with diabetes by providing BD insulin syringes and BD pen needles through a collaboration with the Shanghai Diabetes Association. The supplies will also be distributed to families during World Diabetes Day events in Shanghai.
- The Diabetes Care Kits include BD insulin syringes or BD pen needles and educational information about self-care, including correct injection technique and the harm of reuse. These kits will be distributed at the Shanghai Library on November 10, 2007.

BD supports Project HOPE in China
Since 1998, BD has supported Project HOPE through its China Diabetes Education Program (CDEP). CDEP introduced a state-of-the-art training model that developed diabetes education and training materials for China. CDEP provides comprehensive diabetes training to local medical and healthcare providers, also known as Trained Trainers. To date, outreach efforts by Trained Trainers across 800 local hospitals and community care centers have successfully trained nearly 37,000 medical professionals and about 170,000 patients with diabetes.
