BD SurePath™ liquid-based Pap test is intended for use in the screening and detection of cervical cancer, pre-cancerous lesions, atypical cells and all other cytologic categories as defined by The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical/Vaginal Cytologic Diagnoses*.

BD SurePath™ liquid-based Pap test provides the following advantages over conventional Pap smears and other LBC (Liquid-Based Collection) tests resulting in greater disease detection:

  • 64.4% increased detection of HSIL+ (high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion) detection5, a significant pre-cancerous condition1
  • Significantly fewer ‘Unsatisfactory’ and ‘Satisfactory but limited by’ cases6, reducing unneccessry repeat testing.
  • The BD SurePath™ test collection process ensures that 100% of your collected cells are sent to the clinical laboratory for testing
  • Thin-layer Cell Enrichment preparation process reduces obscuring material, providing greater clarity for diagnosis
  • BD SurePath™ test collection process allows the laboratory access for repeat testing from the residual cell solution, providing more effective patient management

In the laboratory, the processing and staining module, formerly known as AutoCyte PREP®, is now called the BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor. The BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor is the only single system available for both the preparation and staining of cervical cytology samples.

Combining advanced robotics with application-specific protocols, preservatives, preparation fluids, and stains for both gynecologic and non-gynecologic applications in the modern cytology laboratory.

Features of the BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor:

  • Easy to Use.
  • Textbook Quality.
  • Increases the Number of Adequate Specimens.

Four Simple Steps ...

1. Liquid-Based Sample Collection

A cervical sample is collected. The tip of the collection device is separated from the stem and dropped into BD SurePath™ ethanol-based preservative fluid, capturing and preserving 100% of the collected patient sample and eliminating any potential air drying artifacts. The sample vial is capped, labeled and sent off to the lab.

2. BD SurePath™ Cell Enrichment Process

At the laboratory, samples are pre-processed in batches up to 48 at a time. The cell enrichment process combines gravity dispersion and centrifugation to separate obscuring blood, mucus, inflammation and other debris from diagnostic material, creating an enriched cellular sample.

3. Automated Cell to Slide Transfer

Up to 48 samples are loaded onto the BD PrepStain™ system for completely automated processing and staining of the samples. BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor creates a consistent preparation with enhanced concentration of diagnostic cells for easier screening.

4. Completely Automated Staining

Upon completion of a uniform thin-layer on the slide, BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor continues the process with on-board EA/OG and Hematoxylin stains. Precision automation provides a consistent stain for each slide.

The BD FocalPoint™ GS Imaging System combines the automated screening capability of the BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler (formerly the AutoPap Primary Screening System) with the precision field location capability of the BD FocalPoint™ GS Review Station. It is intended to assist in cervical cancer screening of BD SurePath™ Pap Test slides to detect evidence of Squamous carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and their precursor conditions.

Make the BD FocalPoint GS Imaging System your guide in cervical cytology screening.

  • Directs your attention to slides most likely contain abnormalities
  • Guides you to specific areas on the slide most likely to contain abnormal cells or information of diagnostic interest

Efficient and Optimal interpretation of your slides

  •  Reduced false negatives through the detection of significantly more dysplasia
  • Reduced unnecessary and inconvenient repeat testing by lowering your ASC-US result
  • Significantly increased productivity
