BD Certification Requirements


Small Businesses are required to provide BD with evidence of Small Business Certifications through either an approved third-party certifying organization or the BD Self-Certification Form (available through BD’s Registration Portal).

Required Third Party Certifications:

The following small business and diversity categories require third party certification/verification:

  • HUBZone Small Businesses: The U.S. Small Business Administration must certify HUBZone Small Businesses. For more information on HUBZone certification, please refer to the site maintained by the Small Business Administration (www.sba.gov).
  • Veteran-Owned and Service Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses: should show evidence of verification or progress toward verification by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs: Center for Veteran Enterprise. The verification process is initiated through its web site (www.vetbiz.gov).
  • All large businesses claiming diversity status must submit third party certification.

Examples of certifying agencies include:

  • National Minority Supplier Development Council (www.nmsdc.org)
  • Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (www.wbenc.org)
  • State or local governments
