Global Procurement continually drives to increase savings return and added value to BD through its strategy and initiatives. Sourcing and Strategy Many raw materials used in manufacturing, particularly those that come into contact with body fluid pathways, undergo rigorous testing and validation protocols required by government regulations, so selecting the right supply strategy and subsequent supplier base is complex and highly strategic. BD’s Global Procurement associates lead cross-functional stakeholder sourcing teams. These teams review the needs of the business for each particular category of purchase against six critical sourcing factors: Assurance, Quality, Service, Cost, Innovation and Regulatory (AQSCIR). A sourcing strategy for each category is then devised by reference to those requirements as well as through knowledge of the external supply market. Process Efficiency Shared service centers in North America and Asia drive BD’s transactional efficiency over high-volume processes and data management. Adding to our process efficiency is the use of a single instance SAP globally and the operation of a Managed Services Program whereby suppliers should apply via a third party to be considered as a supplier for BD. For example, temporary labor suppliers should apply through Agile-1 and IT temporary labor through Tapfin. Continuous Improvement Programs BD strives to continuously improve the reliability, quality and cost effectiveness of all of its procured products and services. BD works in close collaboration with strategic and preferred suppliers to develop continuous improvement projects that will bring value, savings and/or competitive advantage to our organization. Continuous improvement projects range in scope from simple Lean and waste reduction measures to full Six Sigma programs. Indirect Procurement Supplier of Choice Program (SOCP) One of the ways BD pursues its aim of leveraging the full capability of a right-sized supply base is by operating a supplier of choice program. This program selects and drives volume through the best-performing suppliers for all indirect sourcing categories. Through programs such as the Supplier of Choice Program, BD aims to achieve 100% professional spend management. |
