BD SurePath™ Process

BD SurePath™ liquid-based Pap test is a FDA-approved process intended for use in screening and detection of cytologic categories*. The BD SurePath™ collection process is a simple 3 step process which ensures 100% of the collected sample is sent to the laboratory.

BD SurePath™ collection process Step 1: Collect
BD SurePath™ Pap test uses a unique, easy to use sample collection process. A cytologic sample is collected by a healthcare professional using a broom-like or a brush/spatula combination of collection devices.
BD SurePath™ collection process Step 2: Drop
Once the sample is collected, the detachable head(s) of the collection device(s) is dropped into the proprietary BD SurePath™ preservative vial to retain 100% of the cells collected.
BD SurePath™ collection process Step 3: Send
The vial is then sealed and sent to the lab for processing and analysis.

In the lab, the vial goes through the process of BD SurePath™ Cell Enrichment which substantially removes blood, mucus and up to 50% of inflammatory cells. This improves specimen adequacy and may reduce repeat testing. A slide is then prepared using the
BD PrepStain™ slide preparation instrument and the slide can be analyzed manually or with the assistance of BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler.

The BD SurePath™ process – an accurate analysis of cytologic sample to provide you the right result.
