BD SurePath™ Process

Minimization of “Unsatisfactory” Reports

BD SurePath™ Pap test has the lowest rate of “Unsats” among conventional and other Liquid Based Cytology (LBC) Pap tests. This is due to the proprietary BD SurePath™ Cell Enrichment process which ensures the clearest Pap slide achievable today.

After you have collected your cervical sample, the collection device(s) are dropped into the
BD SurePath™ vial and the vial is sent to the lab.

In the lab, the BD SurePath ™ Cell Enrichment process is as follows:

  • Removes obscuring debris, like mucous and inflammatory cells, which can inhibit disease detection. More women at your practice can have their Pap test during their regularly scheduled appointment.
  • Minimizes “Unsats” as the enriched cellular sample is reproducibly homogenized and deposited on the slide.
  • Employs BD PrepMate™ Cell Enrichment Processor, which is an automated front-end accessory that automates the BD SurePath ™ Cell Enrichment Process of mixing and dispensing the specimen. It provides a puncture-top process that mixes and dispenses with the vial cap on, thus minimizing cross-contamination which can occur when “open cap” LBC systems are used. The same sample volume is used for each slide, increasing cell uniformity across the slide so you get the correct report from the lab.
