BD Global Operations Earns a New Green Label

Getting one step closer to a healthier environment is always good news. It also means getting one step closer to a world of healthier people. That's why increasing our use of renewable energy—such as wind power—to help reduce our environmental footprint is one of the many facets of BD’s global sustainability efforts that tie into our purpose, "Helping all people live healthy lives."

In November 2012, BD certified that 35% of its total electricity consumption comes from wind power, earning the WindMade™ label for our global operations. WindMade is the first global consumer label identifying organisations and products that use wind power in their operations or production. BD became a WindMade Pioneer in 2011, joining an elite group of companies supporting WindMade, and among the first to announce intentions to pursue the label.

In the quest for clean energy, the WindMade label is a significant milestone. Backed by the UN Global Compact and conservation group WWF, the certification requires participating companies to obtain at least 25% of their electricity from wind power using one of several purchase mechanisms. They must also obtain third-party verification of their stated renewable energy use.
