Technology Leadership Development Program (TLDP)
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, is seeking highpotential
technical talent for its Technology Leadership Development Program (TLDP). The TLDP is
designed for future technical leaders, with accelerated development into advanced leadership roles on
both technical and managerial tracks.
The participants enter an accelerated leadership development program consisting of three
successively more challenging assignments which can span multiple businesses and/or locations
within the company, strengthening the technical depth and skills of these high-potential associates
while developing their leadership skills and stretching them across multiple disciplines. Participants
can enter the program with a Ph.D. or MS degree in life sciences and engineering fields such as
mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, biochemistry,
cell biology, and other related fields. A career path is sculpted for each individual, based upon each
participants interests and educational point-of-entry. Assignments will focus on developing each
participants domain expertise, leadership abilities, and cross-functional skills, and business acumen.
With custom-designed assignments guided by participants input, the program is designed to be fluid,
flexible, and dynamic. A participant may have assignments spanning the three BD segments: BD
Medical, BD Diagnostics, BD Biosciences, while developing his or her technical and leadership skills
or may focus in one area of expertise and work on different assignments, in areas such as research,
product development, and project leadership, within one business or product line. The adaptation of
assignments to the individuals skills and interests allows for a great deal of agility, and serves as a
catalyst for accelerated development within the company.
Examples of first assignments include design and development of product components in drug
delivery systems or high tech diagnostics devices, or contributing to the development of a novel
materials technology that enables invention of new medical devices and therapies, or participating in
the development of new technologies that enable better and faster disease diagnostics. Second
assignments are more complex technically and typically include providing supervision and work
direction for a small team. In the third assignment leadership is further developed by increased team
sizes while the technical complexity and impact of the roles are also increased.
To qualify for the program, applicants must have legal work authorization in the United States without restriction as to duration.
