Mercy Ships is a hospital ship that helps developing nations and the world’s forgotten poor.1

The history of Mercy Ships

  • Since 1978, Mercy Ships has provided 82,000 lifesaving surgeries and have visited over 589 ports.1
  • Nearly 50% of people in Africa have no access to a hospital or doctor. Children, teens and adults suffer and die every day from curable or treatable causes, and one child in eight will die before age five.1
  • The Africa Mercy is currently the largest civilian hospital ship in the world weighing in at 16,572 tons. The hospital includes five operating rooms, recovery rooms, intensive care and low dependency ward, totaling 80 patient beds.1
  • The hospital ship, with a crew of 400 volunteers, is able to deliver hope and healing to people who lack access to first-rate medical care.1
