Safety needles
BD offers active and passive needle-based safety systems to meet clinician preferences. In our needle-based safety devices, the safety mechanism is built into the needle. The needle can be manually attached to a conventional syringe or a commercially prepared pre-filled syringe.
Active system
In an active system, clinicians activate the safety mechanism after the injection. BD Eclipse™ syringes and BD SafetyGlide™ syringes use active systems.
Passive system
In a passive system, the syringe automatically shields the needle after the injection. The BD AutoShield Duo™ pen needle uses a passive safety mechanism.
BD AutoShield Duo™ pen needle
The BD AutoShield Duo pen needle is a 5-mm pen needle that enables a wide variety of clinical and patient benefits in insulin injection.
BD Eclipse™ needle
A wide-textured finger pad provides a safe activation area for the thumb and forefinger.
BD SafetyGlide™ shielding hypodermic needle
BD Activation Assist™ technology allows for fast and easy single-handed needle shielding.
