BD celebrates opening of new manufacturing facility in Tatabánya, Hungary

Apr 8, 2010

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, today celebrated the grand opening of its new production facility in Tatabánya, Hungary.  Construction of this new €100 million, state-of-the-art facility began in 2008, and production is expected to start in 2010.  BD is expected to employ approximately 500 people at the facility by 2014.

Completion of this new manufacturing facility marks an important milestone for BD and reinforces the Company’s commitment to making the highest quality products available to customers.  It will also help meet the growing worldwide demand for the prefillable syringes that are sold to pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms whose injectable drugs are delivered using these devices.  BD pioneered the production of prefillable injection devices and continues to be a global leader in the field.

“BD chose to establish this important production facility in Hungary because of the proximity to the important European customers it will serve,” said Claude Dartiguelongue, President, BD Medical – Pharmaceutical Systems. “The availability of a highly skilled workforce, access to qualified subcontractors, and the support of local public officials were also key factors in our selection of this attractive location for BD's new manufacturing presence."

The building design incorporates features intended to reduce energy and water consumption, reflecting BD’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
