BD commits $1.1 million to global COVID-19 response efforts

BD is donating $750,000 to COVID-19 response efforts in the U.S. and internationally, in addition to the $350,000 in cash and product the Company donated to COVID-19 relief efforts in China earlier this year, bringing the Company's total COVID-19 response contributions to $1.1 million. The new funding is being deployed through six non-profit partners, to support healthcare workers in the United States, Europe, Latin America and China in their collaborative battle against COVID-19.

  • BD funding to Direct Relief will support grants to community health centers in the United States, who provide care to the nation's most vulnerable patients, the majority of whom are under- or uninsured. Expanding community health center access is critical to preserving hospital capacity to focus on caring for only the patients with the most serious of health care needs. This funding builds on the BD Helping Build Healthy Communities Program, which each year provides grant funding to help community health care centers expand innovative approaches to providing health care for the most vulnerable patients in the United States. BD funding to Direct Relief will also be used to support the organization's efforts to distribute COVID-19-related healthcare supplies in Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain and France.
  • BD funding to International Medical Corps will support the deployment of emergency field hospital tents to U.S. communities whose hospital bed capacity may not meet the demand caused by the surge in patients they're likely to encounter due to COVID-19. This funding will also be used to support IMC's close collaboration with and support of the Ministries of Health of more than 30 countries that are working to combat COVID-19.

Other key partners and projects being supported through this funding include:

  • The expansion of COVID-19-specific interventions and healthcare worker training being implemented by Americares at its clinical service sites that serve vulnerable patients in Columbia, El Salvador, India, Puerto Rico and Philippines.
  • The World Health Organization-United Nations Foundation's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, which is an international effort to help the world's most vulnerable countries prevent, detect and treat COVID-19.
  • A matching gift campaign, through which BD will provide a 1:1 match to associate donations made to two specific non-profit organizations – Project HOPE and the CDC Foundation – that are supporting healthcare workers and communities in preventing, detecting and responding to COVID-19.

Earlier this year, BD provided support to local health organizations who were combating COVID-19 China; through in-kind product donations to the Wuhan Red Cross; and a cash donation to Project HOPE to support the provision of personal protective equipment for frontline health care workers in China.
