BD Celebrates 60 Years In Sandy, Utah
Announces $20 Million Investment to Support Growth

SANDY, Utah, Aug. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ – BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a leading global medical technology company, was joined by senior public officials today to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its manufacturing facility in Sandy, Utah. http://catalog.bd.com/nexus-ecat/getProductDetail?productId= also announced that it recently approved a $20 million investment in the BD Sandy site as part of its broader plan to invest in manufacturing capacity and support anticipated growth in the catheter solutions platform.

The site traces its roots to Deseret Pharmaceutical, which started in Murray, Utah in 1956. US acquired the facility in Sandy in 1986, which has grown to 550,000 sq. ft. and employs more than 1,200 associates.

BD products manufactured in Sandy include intravenous (IV) catheters and valves, blood collection devices and surgical products. The site is responsible for more than 200 global patents related to IV catheters. Products manufactured in Sandy are sold in 96 countries worldwide. Associates at the BD facility in Sandy have an average tenure of 13 years.

Tom Polen, president of the BD Medical segment, and Bill Tozzi, worldwide president of Medication and Procedural Solutions for BD, welcomed associates, elected leaders and other guests to the celebration.

BD's operations in Sandy have received Utah's top award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency in Industry and has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for achieving the Energy Star Challenge for Industry for energy reduction. The facility has operated since 2008 using 100 percent of its power demands from renewable energy sources ― becoming the first BD site to do so. In 2012, the facility became a landfill-free site, where waste is reduced, recycled or converted into energy.

BD in Sandy is more than a successful manufacturing site, and has a long history of giving back to the community. Since 2010, BD in Sandy has contributed more than $500,000 to the local community and volunteer outreach to organizations such as People Helping People, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Heart Association, Meals on Wheels and the Utah Food Bank.
