    COVID-19 vaccination preparedness

    Responsible. Responsive. Ready.

BD has mobilized and our devices are set to deliver the COVID-19 vaccine to the world

In the midst of this global pandemic, we understand the responsibility we carry as the world’s largest manufacturer of injection devices. This position of leadership is why we responded to the crisis early—rapidly scaling up our manufacturing operations. We took this initiative so that once the COVID-19 vaccine became available, BD syringes and needles would be ready. We are committed to enabling healthcare providers to deliver the best possible patient care, which includes meeting the critical need for vaccinations.

    BD has committed more than

    1 billion injection devices

to support COVID-19 vaccinations. Placed end to end, they would circle the Earth 2 times.

    Ordered

BD is working with governments and organizations around the world to produce and supply injection devices for COVID-19 vaccination campaigns.

As orders get placed, BD business and operations teams carefully plan new demand to not disrupt routine patient care.

    Produced

Manufacturing and packaging of needles and syringes

Plastic pellets called resin are heated, melted and injected into molds to create the syringe and plastic needle parts. Stainless steel strip is rolled into a tube, welded and shrunk to the proper wall thickness and gauge. This cannula is cut to length and put through a grinding process to form the sharp needle point. Separately, the parts for the needle and syringe are fed into high-speed assembly machines and then packaged.
