BD recognizes the need for our customers to maintain security when using third-party vendor software and computer products. As part of our ongoing efforts to provide product security by design, in use and through partnership, we maintain a program to test third party patches that are important for maintaining the cyber security of BD products. After review, we approve patches for specific BD instruments if, based on testing with our software subsystem formal verification protocols, it appears that the patch does not substantially affect performance or functionality of the instrument and therefore will not void BD’s warranty or any service obligation under a BD service contract.
For customers where BD maintains patches through an automated delivery, patch installation and reboot schedules will be coordinated by your BD service representative and will be completed according to your specified service agreement as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain the operating system security posture. Customers should ensure that BD products/workstations that are not configured to automatically install security patches and reboot, if necessary, perform these actions and maintain the correct security posture of the system(s). Please contact your BD Service Representative to create cases if any devices need to be rebooted.
All customers should ensure the proper patches are installed as the acting responsible entity in order to maintain the correct security posture of the system(s).
