Guardrails™ Safety Software for Alaris™ System
Proprietary medication safety and continuous quality improvement software for IV systems
Guardrails™ Suite from BD is medication safety and continuous quality improvement (CQI) software designed specifically for use with the Alaris™ System and the Alaris™ SE pump.
The Guardrails Suite safety software is a comprehensive safety solution available today at the point of care. It can help reduce IV medication errors, improve the overall quality of patient care, track and measure system performance and help increase compliance with national safety standards.
This software allows for customizable care areas or profiles. Within each of these profiles, drug and IV fluid libraries are created. The names of the drugs and IV fluids can be customized with generic or brand name medications and support use of TALLman lettering to help distinguish look-a-like names. Each infusion delivery parameter can have hard and/or soft Guardrails limits. A Guardrails soft limit is one that can be overridden when clinically appropriate. A Guardrails hard limit cannot be overridden.
This software can be further customized by creating drug-specific clinical advisories. These advisories provide the user with additional clinical information prior to the start of the infusion. In addition, there are drug-specific therapies to allow you to further customize patient-specific infusion delivery limits.
When the Guardrails™ Suite software is added to the Alaris System the software allows you to create profile specific libraries for all Alaris System infusion modalities, such as large volume pump, PCA and syringe delivery.
- Guardrails™ Editor software is a PC-based authoring tool used to customize how infusions are delivered by setting safety limits appropriate for a given patient care area. This single application allows facilities to create safety parameters across all Alaris System infusion modalities such as large volume pump, PCA and syringe.
- Guardrails™ CQI Reporter is a PC-based application that generates custom reports and graphics to allow the hospital to measure the effectiveness of their safety practices.
- Alaris™ System Maintenance is a PC-based application designed to optimize your investment in the Alaris System by providing your Biomedical Engineer with a technical guide for diagnostic, preventative and update procedures.
