Inclusion and Diversity

Implementing strategy while embracing differences

A key component of our journey to becoming a great company is our commitment to global inclusion and diversity. Increased inclusion and diversity helps make BD the right place for all associates. Diversity removes barriers to ensure that every associate has the potential to succeed in reaching their personal and professional goals. It also allows us to attract the best and brightest associates and uncover new business opportunities.

Our people reflect the communities we live and work in, the customers and patients we serve, and our broad range of thought and experience. Their diversity is an integral part of our success. At BD, we acknowledge value and respect diversity. To succeed in a dynamic industry, we have created a work environment where all associates can be their true self.

Inclusion is a state of being valued, respected and supported. It is about focusing on the needs of every individual and ensuring the right conditions are in place for each person to achieve his or her full potential.

Diversity is any dimension that can be used to differentiate groups of people from one another. It means respect for and appreciation of differences in ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, education and religion.

Associate resource groups (ARGs)

ARGs are company-recognized groups of associates with a specific purpose and charter that aligns with the overall company and inclusion and diversity strategy. These groups celebrate the differences that make us unique.

At BD, ARGs help us advance our cultural priorities of becoming more agile, candid and transparent; cultivating innovation; and uniting, engaging and developing talent. ARGs also help create better career growth for associates by providing peer mentoring, coaching, leadership and networking opportunities.

The following ARGs have been established:

Supplier Diversity

The BD Supplier Diversity Program covers BD operations in the United States and Puerto Rico. It supports our efforts under our Small Business Subcontracting Plan to source supplies (including finished goods, parts and raw materials) and services from qualified suppliers that meet our high quality standards and fulfill our materials, supplies and service requirements.

BD encourages small business participation in its sourcing endeavors and strives to provide an equitable opportunity for qualified small businesses to compete for new and rebid purchases. The BD Company Procurement department, in collaboration with its Government National Accounts department, is leading this effort with the support of senior management through the leadership team.
