Advanced HIV Disease: Know your Count
Barriers to early diagnosis, treatment and resources like enabling environments put people living with Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) at greater risk for worsened outcomes. COVID-19 and the resulting disruptions to key supply chains and interventions for those with AHD further complicate the already concerning statistics.
It is estimated that 4 out of 10 HIV-related deaths could be prevented by dealing with AHD. People living with AHD are also at greater risk of contracting opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis and cryptococcal meningitis. Yet why do people continue to die from AHD when diagnostic services and treatment exist?
